The business

Richard Jay Group is a national hygiene and commercial laundry supplies business. Founded in Adelaide in 1969, it supplies and services laundry equipment, laundry and hygiene chemicals, and sanitation products for commercial and industrial use across health and aged care, hospitality, mining, education, industry, and food and beverage.

In healthcare, aged care, government and food, hygiene is a compliance obligation rather than a preference, and a laundry or food plant that stops becomes an operational problem within hours. Meeting both standards nationally, every day, is the business.

Why Fortitude partnered.

The same frame guides every investment: good people, building a good business, in a good market. For Richard Jay, that means:

01 Good people

A management team with deep sector knowledge and long-standing customer relationships, backing themselves to build a national platform.

02 Good business

Recurring equipment, service and chemicals revenue, a large installed base, and mission-critical products that customers cannot do without.

03 Good markets

Structural and resilient demand from essential industries including health and aged care, hospitality, mining, education, industry, and food and beverage, with room to consolidate a fragmented service market.

How we work together.

We acquired the business from the second generation family owners. We have partnered with management and incoming operating partners to scale it. Fortitude has brought capital, strategy focus and people to help the business become more valuable.

Capital

Growth funding to invest in the business with confidence, and to fund acquisitions and rental fleet expansion, without over-extending the balance sheet.

Strategy focus

Market insight, acquisition experience and an exit mindset, to focus resources and effort on executing the strategy.

People and governance

A stronger board including previous chief executives from aligned industries, sharper reporting and senior hires to build capability for scale.
